Blogging

Shortly after I came out to British Columbia in early 2006 I had a case of severely high blood pressure. It wouldn't have been fair to an employer for me to work for them until I got my health situation sorted out. I was on medications to lower the blood pressure and it took until early 2007 to find the cause. I finally went to a naturopath who found that a microscopic parasite was the cause for all this.

While getting my health in order, I took up blogging to share my photography. This way I wasn't wasting time and others got to enjoy the photos, not just me and those close to me.

In May of this year I had a mini-stroke cause again by severely high blood pressure. I may end up gong to the naturopath again since the specialist and other MDs can't seem to find the cause. This has only been a problem out here. Before that in Ontario, the blood pressure was only marginally high, not severely high like in BC.

Knowledge is good because being forewarned is forearmed!

All that said, enjoy this blog and all the photos I share with you.

False Creek - from Yaletown to English Bay on a Sunday

Sunday I was in Vancouver to walk along False Creek from Science World to the main beach at English Bay. I took the seaside walk along the north side much as I had done the previous day. The weather was excellent with plenty of sun that brought out people walking, cycling, rollerblading and just soaking up the sun. These are just some of the photos I took. We'll begin with a photo of a sea bird, the cormorant, one of the oddest birds I've seen!
There's some artwork along the way to capture your interest, such as this piece above. Welcome, star people!!!

There's a path for cyclists on one side and a walkway for those walking on the other. The Aquabus, the False Creek Ferry, gets those that want to from place to place along the waterway.

There's more artwork (above) and Yaletown is filled with highrise condos as well.

At the Granville Bridge you can view Granville Island with its markets, shops and such. This too can be reached by Aquabus.

There are plants to capture one's attention and there are more boats on the water too. There are some passing under the Burrard Bridge in the photo below.

There's a lovely view of Bowen Island and the mountains (above) from a high point near the Burrard Bridge and with a great view of Sunset Beach with the West End in the background (below).

Evidence of solar power is there as well (above) and plenty of promiss of summer in the plantings along the route (below).

The main beach at English Bay has all sorts of activity, such as a beach volleyball game under way (above), and plenty of people just enjoying the company of friends and taking in the sun. I hope you've enjoyed this little tour of False Creek out to English Bay and dreams of the summer yet to come (only a week or less away)!!! - V.

From Kitsilano to Point Grey Beach and back

In early August I did a walk from Vancouver's downtown to Kitsilano, past the beach and on to Jericho, Locarno, Spanish Banks Beaches before arriving at Point Grey Beach and then returning. That was not the only time. There was atleast one other such walk. Great exercise if summer heat is not a problem. These are just some of the photos that resulted from the trek.

Someone suggested these flowers might be Arnica montana, or Leopard's Bane, but I'll have to take a much closer look next summer. Looking at these cheery blooms takes our thoughts away from the cold, snowy winter we are currently into though.

After Labour Day, the lifeguards disappeared not to return again until next summer.
Do you ever have the feeling that you are being watched???

I love yellow flowers, in this case a bumblebee (Bombus ssp) on a tansy flower collecting nectar. I hope you have enjoyed these photos and that they have taken your thoughts away from winter for a bit to bring rays of sunshine into your life. Have a good Christmas!

Remembering a warmer season

Now that we are in the midst of a cold blast of arctic air and real winter here on the west coast, here is a photo of one of the beaches facing English Bay in Vancouver. The photo was taken in early August during the height of our summer here in British Columbia. Perhaps this will serve as a distraction from all the snow and cold that we are currently having. There will be more about the beaches, from Kitsilano, Jericho, Locarno and Spanish Banks Beaches to Point Grey Beach soon. Meantime, enjoy this diversion!

Summer colour and warm temperatures

After an odd spring I hope all are enjoying the warm summer temperatures and taking note of the colour that abounds. The sunflower above is in bloom at West Georgia and Denman Streets not far from Stanley Park and the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Have a great summer and enjoy all it has to offer! - Volker

Some Views of White Rock - Summer 2006

Here are a variety of images from White Rock, BC taken during the summer of 2006. They vary from Montgomery's Cottage Lunch, one of many restaurants on Marine Drive, to the boardwalk, promenade, Mt. Baker (volcano) and the Amtrak train going to Seattle, Washington (USA). More photos of this lovely community on Semiahmoo Bay will be featured in future posts. Enjoy!
