Blogging

Shortly after I came out to British Columbia in early 2006 I had a case of severely high blood pressure. It wouldn't have been fair to an employer for me to work for them until I got my health situation sorted out. I was on medications to lower the blood pressure and it took until early 2007 to find the cause. I finally went to a naturopath who found that a microscopic parasite was the cause for all this.

While getting my health in order, I took up blogging to share my photography. This way I wasn't wasting time and others got to enjoy the photos, not just me and those close to me.

In May of this year I had a mini-stroke cause again by severely high blood pressure. I may end up gong to the naturopath again since the specialist and other MDs can't seem to find the cause. This has only been a problem out here. Before that in Ontario, the blood pressure was only marginally high, not severely high like in BC.

Knowledge is good because being forewarned is forearmed!

All that said, enjoy this blog and all the photos I share with you.

Mariechen

Marie (or "Mariechen", little Marie in German) as she looks now just past her 3rd month in age.  She will all give us much pleasure!  My son Wahid has her now but I am adopting her in January 2014.  When my son comes over with Lisa after he finishes college in Jakarta, we will all be united (or reunited).  We are all looking forward to this!  The photos was taken by my son Wahid, as the others too!

Marie

There is no sign that Emilie (my son's other kitten) will return or be returned but Marie (the other kitten) is growing fast.  Here are just a few photos of her that my son Wahid had sent me earlier this week.  Marie gets the colour from her dad mostly.  The dark patch on her head would be from her mother I would think.  The shape of the head is that of a non-Persian but the legs are short like a Persian.  Enjoy the images!

Thanks!  - Volker

missing and presumed stolen

Yes, earlier in the week I got a message from Jakarta that one of my son's kittens was missing after a break-in and theft in his guardian's home.  Everyone is sad, very sad, about the loss of Emilie (on the left), my son Wahid, his guardian and the others in the household.  And I am sad too.  I've had a few sleepless nights, so I can imagine what its like thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean in Indonesia.  The police are doing their part but I have also been doing a search online and just today sent out another email trying to see if Emilie can be found.  There is always the possibility that she ran out the door while the theft was in progress and got lost in the neighbourhood.  If that was the case, if someone found her, they wouldn't have any idea where her home was to which she should be retuirned.

I am adopting Marie (right), though the original plan was to adopt both, Emilie and Marie!.  Marie should be living with me no later than January 2014.  My son comes over from Indonesia in 2016 with the mother cat (Lisa) plus another Perian cat (peaknose) when he finishes college in Jakarta that year.  Those are the plans but we all know what can happen to the best laid plans!

More on Emilie and Marie - and their mother Lisa

My son Wahid in Jakarta, Indonesia sent me some more photos of the kittens the other day.  This time they included the mother, Lisa.  My the kittens have grown!  Just so you know, Lisa is a Persian flatnose cat.  We have no idea who the father was other than he was likely white.  The dark patch on top of the head of each of the kittens is likely to do with the genes from the mother.  The kittens names are:  Emilie and Marie!  I'll keep you posted on developments.
Its awesome to be able to compare their growth with the mother right there.  They have grown a lot in a short time.  As mentioned, I will keep you posted!

Emilie and Marie II

The kittens, Emilie and Marie are growing strong each time I see photos of them that my son Wahid has shared with me.  The mother is a Persian flatnose cat, chocolate in colour.  We have no idea who the father was but there must be some Siamese in there to get the blue eyes which the mother (Lisa) does not have (she has reddish eyes).  The top photo has Marie on the left and Emilie on the right.  The bottom image is that of Marie.  I am still trying to determine why the hair is discoloured at the corner of Marie"s eyes.  Emilie has no problems in this respect.  Its just Marie!  Perhaps its an allergy?

Meet Emilie and Marie!

I have an adopted son living in Jakarta, Indonesia whose cat, a Persian flatnose named Lisa, gave birth to 4 kittens three weeks ago.  One of them died a few days later and another a week after but the kittens shown above are strong and healthy.  My son asked me to think of names for them, so I eventually thought of Emilie and Marie, names that come from my father's side of the family.  I thought them simple and elegant for a couple of cute female kittens.  The one on the left (smaller nose) is Emilie and the one on the right (larger nose), Marie!  We don't know the father but Lisa was 16 months old when she was brought to the home by my son's guardian earlier this year.  In the winter earlier this year, my son and his guardian thought she (Lisa) was sick only to find out she was pregnant.  The Persian cat was a gift to my son for having done so well in his exams in December 2012.  He was 2nd of 235 students in the college he is attending.  A Persian cat is what my son wanted when I asked.  You can see the mother cat in the background if you look carefully (chocolate colour).  Stay tuned for more news.
