Unlike Richard III's experience, there seem to be more than enough horses in Vancouver's Stanley Park. Take a tour of the park on a horse-drawn trolley, wagon or wagonette the next time you are here for a visit. You can find information about the tours online. Lovely Shires - originally bred as warhorses - large, strong and with great stamina, able to carry an armored man to battle.
Horses have long been an interest of mine though I posted these images for those with a particular interest in these fine animals. A friend in the U.S. reads this blog and I had that person in mind when I posted knowing that others would appreciate the photos as well.
My family originates from the former East Prussia (Ostpreussen) where the horse called the Trakehner originated as well. This breed dates from the Middle Ages when the Teutonic Knights crossed a native horse of the region with other horse breeds to produce what later became the Trakehner.
