In order to take us away from the depressing news of rain (it's still raining here in the lower mainland) here are a few photos taken during my trip across Canada from Toronto to Vancouver in October 2005. I arrived in Jasper, Alberta on October 11th (our Thanksgiving Day) after two days on the train (Via One) from Toronto, Ontario. The following day I made two hikes around Lac Beauvert (meaning: "lake beautiful green"). The weather was absolutely perfect for a walk. These are some of the images that resulted. The top image looks across Lac Beauvert to the golf green across the lake and off to the mountains in the east (part of the Rocky Mountains). It was impressive to see the still water and how clear it was.
The next image above looks at a typical scene in the area. Here is a stream flowing out of Lac Beauvert and on into another small lake to the east. Lac Beauvert is just one of a series of lakes on the south side of the Athabasca River on the opposite side of the town of Jasper. Here we are in the Jasper National Park where the Jasper Park Lodge is also located. I was staying at the lodge which was expensive but worth the experience!
The view above looks west across Lac Beauvert to the mountains in British Columbia in the distance. This photo was taken in the afternoon.
This next photo (above) looks across Lac Beauvert near its eastern end to the Jasper Park Lodge. Again there are mountains in the distance, part of the Rocky Mountain chain.
Here is another lovely view looking from the southern shore of the lake towards the north.
A bull elk was seen on the golf green on the hike around the lake in the afternoon. A femaie elk and her calf were seen later on the other side of the Lac Beauvert. I will post some photos taken during a long hike from the lodge to Maligne Canyon to the east. It was a three hour hike through the forest to the canyon and then another three hour walk back. I will tell you more about that hike when I post those additional photos. I hope you have enjoyed these! Feel free to comment. If you have questions, I will certainly do my best to answer them.

the elk bull reminds me of a day sometime in 1998 when I was with a german Catholic priest in one of the rural parishes here in Tanzania. we were in a LandRover, a tape was playing a psalm in swahili- as words on the air were like "God is the creator of human beings and beasts alike" there appeared a bull deer not as big as your elk bull in front of our path and seemed to be astonished by us. the priest just said what a coincence! he applied the brake. we (me, the priest and the deer bull)spent some few minutes admiring one another! well, I like your blog man!
Well, as I'm reminded so often, there is no such thing as a co-incidence or accident. Everything happens for a reason. I do what I can to inspire people to be aware of their surroundings and appreciate the life around them. I'm glad you like my blog!
